Pay People with Popmoney

Send money easily and securely from your online banking account.

Need to pay the babysitter or the landscaper? Owe your coworker for lunch last week? With the Popmoney service, you can send money directly from your First Citizens account to almost anyone, just by knowing their email address or mobile phone number. It's simple and secure, and best of all, it's free! You can access Popmoney through Online Banking or Mobile Banking.

Sending and Receiving Money Through Online Banking

Follow these steps to send money to people through Online Banking:

1. Log in to Personal Online Banking and click on the Payments tab, then the Pay People tab.

2. Enter the email address or mobile phone of the person you want to pay. The recipient doesn't need to have an existing Popmoney account.

3. Your recipients will receive an email or text message letting them know that you have sent them money. If they have never received a Popmoney payment, they will receive instructions on how to have the money deposited into their account. If they have used Popmoney before, they won't have to do anything — the money will automatically be deposited into their account.

If someone has sent you a payment, follow these steps to collect and deposit it through Online Banking:

1. Log in to Personal Online Banking and click on the Payments tab, then the Pay People tab.

2. Select Preferences.

3. Add the email address or mobile phone number where you received the notification.

4. Verify the email address or mobile phone number by clicking Validate next to the added contact point. You will receive a validation code via text or email.

5. Enter the validation code and click Submit.

6. Select Overview and click Details next to the incoming payment. From the drop down box, select the account where you would like the money deposited.

Sending and Receiving Money Through Mobile Banking

Follow these steps to send money to people through Mobile Banking:

1. Log in to the Mobile App or Mobile Web with your mobile device and click on the Payments tab, then Pay People, then Send Money.

2. Select To and either choose a device contact from your mobile device, select a Popmoney contact you have previously paid, or enter a new contact by entering a mobile number or email address.

3. Once a contact is selected, complete the From, Amount and Message fields and select Continue.

4. You will be presented with a screen to Confirm Payment. Click on the Yes button to confirm the payment.

5. Your recipients will receive an email or text message letting them know that you have sent them money. If they have never received a Popmoney payment, they will receive instructions on how to have the money deposited into their account. If they have used Popmoney before, they won't have to do anything — the money will automatically be deposited into their account.

If someone has sent a payment to your mobile number, follow these steps to collect and deposit it through mobile banking:

1. Log in to the Mobile App or Mobile Web from your mobile device and click on the Payments tab, then Pay People, then Receive Money.

2. Select the payment you would like to deposit.

3. Select the account where you would like the money deposited and click Continue.
