First Citizens Bank Enhances Online Banking Service

Columbia, S.C., July 15, 2002 — First Citizens Bank and Trust Company of South Carolina is pleased to announce significant enhancements to its Online Banking service. First Citizens introduced online banking two years ago. Since then, 20,000 of its customers have used this electronic tool to more effectively manage their finances.

First Citizens Online Banking provides consumer and business customers with a full range of financial management services. These include the ability to view account information, balances, and transactions; pay bills quickly and conveniently; receive and transfer funds; view cleared checks; order checks; and download account information to popular account management software such as Quicken® and Microsoft Money®.

While the original package of Online Banking services provided everything needed for effective and convenient financial management, the enhancements offer even more time-saving options for customers.

"Our goal in making these additional services available, " explains James Richardson, Online Banking manager for First Citizens, "is to give our customers even more online options so they have more time to spend on the things that matter most to them."

The improvements, which utilize the latest in Internet technology, include flexible Bill Pay, E-Bills, E-mail Payment, and home page personalization. First Citizens' Bill Pay provides customers the advantage of having funds disbursed from their accounts on the date payment is actually due, rather than when payment is requested. Richardson notes that most other online-banking bill-pay services disburse funds 4 to 5 days prior to the payment due date.

With First Citizens' E-Bills, customers have the benefit of receiving bills online from hundreds of participating payees. They can even arrange for their bills to be paid automatically each month. E-mail Payments allow customers to send money securely to anyone with a valid e-mail address and a U.S. bank account, and the home page service allows customers to customize their home pages with information on stock prices, news and weather updates.

Customers can access First Citizens Online Banking through their current Internet connection. No special software is needed, and a multi-level security system protects account and transaction information. A demo of the services can be viewed at www.firstcitizensonline.com.

Customers can apply for Online Banking by calling First Citizens Customer Contact Center at 1-888-612-4444, applying online at www.fcbsc.com, or visiting their local First Citizens office.
